Vivy Fluorite Eye’s Song

Man… After watching the 12th episode I found myself on the edge of my chair... Wonder Egg Priority Specials still left a mark in my heart and now I have watched another masterpiece… I couldn’t get any break dude? Do you want me broke? The anime industries really did their best in making these two original anime shows (Even though they’re two different anime studios).

Anyway, Vivy Fluorite Eye’s Song. This anime doesn’t seem appealing from the tag, the synopsis, nor the poster (from MAL). But god dang, this is a hidden gem in the previous anime season. If you’re looking at this anime through the ‘music’ tag and synopsis alone, you’d probably find yourself imagining Zombie Land Saga with action and replace the zombie with a robot (Probably). You’re correct, but it’s much better than what you imagine it to be.

I’m going in blind reacting into this anime, but just by watching the first couple of minutes of the first episode, I was already hooked. I mean, just look at this!

What kind of anime starts with a robot crushing a human skull to smithereens? Heck, there’s not even a lot of anime that started off with an open massacre in the middle of the day are there? (at least from what I’ve seen so far)

But before I’m going further into the anime, I’m going to start off with the Premise then slowly making our way through to My Thoughts and Opinion.

Premise

The premise of Vivy is quite simple and straightforward. There are robots, they want to take over the world, and the main cast has to save humanity from that. Simple right? The stories and premise are almost like this anime is a continuation of ‘The Terminator’ or ‘The Matrix’, and you’re absolutely correct. This anime is like those movies but with an extra music tag.

So here’s a simple explanation, in the future robot is destroying humanity and there’s a scientist that sent out a code or some sort one hundred years before this all happened and created the robot, Matsumoto. Matsumoto then meets Vivy, the first-ever autonomous AI, and gives her order to "save humanity" in the mission called “Singularity”. From there we follow our journey with Vivy and Matsumoto on a mission to save humanity.

As you can see, the premise of the anime is straightforward and to be honest, kinda boring and it brings back those Ex-Arm vibes (especially when mixed with the color). Overall, the premise of the story is (In My Opinion) kinda boring. There will not be a lot of people that will get hooked by just this premise alone, they just have to believe that this will be a good show.

So yeah, the synopsis and/or the premise could get some re-writing and they could probably make it easier for one person to get hooked by just reading the synopsis alone. But even if that’s the show's weaknesses, I will not be addressing it any further. After all, they do say “Don’t judge a book by its cover” right?

The Studio and The Author

Making an original anime show is hard because they don’t have fame to be able to open up to the public eyes. Their only option of advertisement is through their studio name and for what it’s famous for. And that’s why this anime is not forgotten and could catch some attention.

If you don’t know, the studio that works for this anime is none other than the legendary Studio Wit. Studio Wit is the studio that creates the famous anime Attack On Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin), so you already know how good and how much effort will be put into this anime.

For the record, the person that writes the story of this anime is also well known in the anime industry, therefore, making this anime (in a way) more popular. The author or the writer of this anime is the same author for the well-known and legendary anime/light novel Re:Zero, and it is none other than Tappei Nagatsuki. I don’t know how he did it, but this guy could just write off a masterpiece of a show from thin air.

Color and CGI

Let me tell you… The vibrant beautiful color from this anime is eye-catching, and for me (and I think just for me) it gives a slight tint of evil to it (if that makes any sense lol). I think what gives me that feeling is probably the first episode of this anime, to be honest.

Anyway as I was saying, the color theme for this anime is vibrant. The robot of this anime also has this plastic tint to it to add the signal that the character is a robot and not a real person. I said that the color gives off some Ex-Arm vibes, but I don’t mean that the color is bad, in fact, it’s super suiting.

The robot character of this anime indeed looks like a 3D CGI, but that makes sense! It’s a robot and not a human. Saying that, the robot character itself is not a CGI, they purposely draw that ‘plasticky layer’ to differentiate between the human and the robot. Yeah, that means the human in this world just looks like basic anime drawing. But don’t forget that this anime already has a quite bright color theme, so the human will (mostly) be white-skinned.

You could see the difference between robots and humans in the picture below:

ree
  • Leclerc and Estella (idk the other one)

ree
  • Hugo Kakitani

You can see that the color theme is bright even in a dark setting like in the second picture.

The CGI of this anime is great. It blends in so well with its insane fighting scene. Oh yeah, I haven’t told you that the fighting scene here looks like from avenger or DC or something. Is so fucking good! I was hooked by the fighting scene alone. They did the fighting scene so well, I’m having a hard time explaining the fighting scene. It’s better for you to just see it with your own eyes then.

Oh yeah, one thing that’s pretty obvious by now, the animation quality of this anime is off the roof! You don’t have to doubt it, trust me on this one. I mean… You could literally see it in the video right?!

Music and VA’s

I mean… It has music as one of its tags, so it’s a crime if I don’t address how fucking good the music is right? If you watched the video, you could hear that it got some nice battle music. I mean, it is expected because the main tag of this anime is action and music right?

There is a lot of music that got stuck in my head from this anime. Though, to be honest, there’s some music that doesn’t really get me in the vibes if I were to just listen to it out of context, but that’s not what appeals from this anime. This anime adds story into their music and thus making the anime and the music more entertaining to watch/hear.

Especially the hype scene. They always put in such good music when the hype scene’s showing up. You could see clips of the battle scene on YouTube if you wanted to, but be careful of spoilers! For a more safe approach, I just recommend you to watch the anime right now, to be honest.

Oh yeah, if you’re curious about the OP and the ED, here you go, and of course, spoiler alert!:

The ED is not found in YouTube (and I’m way too lazy to add it in my own) so here’s the song instead:

You know, the VA for Vivy or just her natural aura gives me the same vibes as Violet from Violet Evergarden. And speaking of Violet Evergarden, I actually planning on making its own separate reviews on it and its movies too.

Now the VA’s, for this one I only have one point to give out. The VA’s for Vivy is Atsumi Tanizaki, you could see what she has Voice Act here, but the studio went on the extra mile to also hire a talented singer for Vivy's stage scene which is Kairi Yagi from Sony Music.

Character and Story

The main cast for this anime is only just two, Vivy and Matsumoto. That’s all you need to know about the main cast. The story revolves around this ‘one arc two/three episode’ rule. So one arc of the story will be presented in just two/three episodes.

The one thing that I want to point out from the story is that in each arc the year will be skipped by a decade or two. You see, the main idea of this entire story to stop AI from destroying humanity in the next one hundred years. And so, because Vivy is a robot therefore she can’t really die from old age, this mission was bestowed to her via Matsumoto.

Because the mission is 100 years long, the time skip really helps the story to be shortened by a lot. But what I’m pointing is that every time skip that they do, you could sense and/or see the changes in technologies and AI manufacturing. You could see that in the first episode, the AI seems really bland, but by the eight-episode, the AI seems to be more humanlike.

Not only that, but the character development also needs to be pointed out. From where Vivy barely has any audience until she has her own stage to perform and has massive amounts of audience/fans. You could also see that Vivy grows more humanlike, just like the other AI. And because every new arc there’ll be a time skip, the character development that Vivy has gone through could be instantly showed up, almost like she’s a totally different person. Or in this sense, a totally different AI. You could clearly see this character development in the seventh or eight-episode (I forgot) where Diva actually forgets about Vivy.

The Ending

Man… Can I just say that the ending is one of the best anime ending this season? No… I think IT IS THE BEST anime ending this season. Though, not gonna lie, when Vivy sang her Fluorite Eye’s Song I kinda teared up a little bit until the ‘jump scare’ of silent hits. I was not expecting that, but it is still beautiful nonetheless.

It is a super satisfying ending for this show. It gives me the chills. You know, in my experience, the feeling while watching her sing is almost the same feeling when the entire class 3-E from Assassination Classroom sing for (SPOILER for Another Series) Koro Sensei’s death.

So yeah, overall the ending is fucking fantastic! And the song also fits in. The ending song that we used to hear, only the instrumental version of it, finally being filled up with lyrics that probably have a deep meaning (Idk, I don’t speak Japanese).

Final Thoughts

Vivy is a story with a cliché premise. But the way they execute this show really puts my interest into this show. The way they execute this could even compare to some of the well-known amazing series out there. The story and character remind me of Violet Evergarden while the fights scene reminds me of Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba). The story is interesting and they could always keep me on the edge of my seat. Because this anime has music as a tag, I could say that this is the best music anime of this season and could also be the best music anime of all time, pairing with Your Lie in April.

If you’re here for my recommendation on this anime, I will say that this show is a must-watch for someone that likes action anime. So if you like action anime, You must watch this anime. The one thing to point out is that this anime is kinda brutal in some scenes.

If you don’t want to watch the anime, they’ve actually released the Light Novel version of this anime called “Vivy Prototype LN”. So if books suited you better, then try giving it a chance as well!

Anyway, this review has been a handful for me, I haven’t had any time to create another review because of school and stuffs like that. So yeah, for the one stranger that happened to come across this, thank you for reading until this far!
